Cinderford made the small trip across the forest to take part in the annual Berryhill festival.
With a few teams missing it was decided that Cinderford were to play in a league style competition against Lydney, Bredon Star, Berryhill and Westbury.
The 1st game for Cinderford was against Bredon, the game started with Cinderford winning the 1st ruck but as the ball was sent out to the backs Bredon intercepted the ball and broke through to score. Cinderford had been shocked into life and fought back to lead at the break 2 – 1 with tries from Jay Watkins and Matty Jones. The 2nd half was controlled by Cinderford with the forward pack securing the ball for the backs to work there magic with centre pairing Matty Jones and Charlie Mai Manns touching down. Cinderford win 20 – 5
Up next were forest rivals Lydney, the game started with an early try for Cinderford from 2nd row Harry Taylor but Lydney came back to draw at half time. The 2nd half saw Cinderford attack hard and come out on top with 2 tries from inform centre Matty Jones. Cinderford win 15 – 5
The game against hosts Berryhill was to be a physical encounter. Berryhill outsized Cinderford all over the field but it was the hard work of the Cinderford forwards that ensured the backs were able to score 4 tries, scrum half Jay Watkins sniped through from a scrum, centre Charlie Mai Manns looped round the defence to score in the corner, full back Benji Cronin ran from deep to side step through the defence to score and Centre Matty Jones added is 6th try of the day for Cinderford to win 20 – 5.
A victory against Westbury would ensure the cup was going home with Cinderford. Again the unsung heroes in the forward pack played their hearts out with hooker Angus King scoring twice. Scrum half Jay Watkins put on a fine display to score 3 with wing wizard Freddie Knight completing the scoring with 2, Cinderford win 35 – 0
The cup was Cinderford’s and Another great day and thank you to hosts Berryhill!
