In a Friday night showdown under the floodlights, Cinderford Stags clashed with Newent 2nds in an electrifying rugby encounter.

Right from the kickoff, Cinderford demonstrated their intent, seizing an early advantage with Teigan Shockey darting over for the opening try within the first minute. Paddy Hinds swiftly extended the lead with a penalty, setting the tone for Cinderford’s dominance.

The pack showcased their prowess, consistently outmuscling their opponents and generating opportunities. Reuben Hinds capitalized on a turnover to notch his first try of the night, amplifying Cinderford’s lead. Lewis Mason further reinforced their superiority with a well-executed driving maul that culminated in another try.

After a Newent mishap in their own try area gave Reuben Hinds the opportunity to score his second try, for the only time of the night was converted by Jay Watkins 25-0.

Cinderford final try of the half was surely their best after attacking out of their own 22, after a chip over the defence by Tom Ward for Jay Watkins to run on to, who followed it up with another chip, it was then kicked through for Reuben Hinds to sprint through and dive on the ball to complete his Hat Trick. 30-0 at half time.

The second half commenced with Paddy Hinds receiving a yellow card, momentarily reducing Cinderford to 14 men. However, their resolve remained unwavering as Tom Reynolds showcased his finishing prowess with a try in the corner, extending the lead to 35-0.

Newent fought back valiantly, breaking Cinderford’s defensive line to register their first try of the match, injecting a glimmer of hope into their campaign at 35-7. Despite facing numerical disadvantages, Cinderford continued to dominate, with captain Liam Littleton and Fin Gunter adding to the tally with well-earned tries. Darrel Peters’ impact off the bench steadied the ship and shown why he’s known as the Dan Cole of the West.

Tom Ward’s temporary absence due to a yellow card did little to dampen Cinderford’s spirits, as he returned to the field to cap off an exceptional performance with another try, sealing Cinderford’s victory at 50-12. However, Newent had the last say, scoring a consolation try as the match concluded at 50-19.

Cinderford’s triumph was a testament to their cohesive teamwork and exhilarating running rugby, leaving a lasting impression on both fans and adversaries alike. As they reflect on their most enjoyable performance to date, Cinderford Stags eagerly anticipate their upcoming league encounter against Cheltenham at home, fueled by the support of their dedicated fans who braved the chilly night in Newent.
