Cinderford played host to Thornbury on Sunday 29th November at a very wet and blustery Dockham Road. The Cinderford lads decided to play into the wind in the first half which meant that they played most of their rugby in their own 22. We had the bare minimum 15 and with only 30 seconds of the game played we lost prop Jack Thorne to injury on his first start for the team meaning we were down to 14 for the remaining 80 minutes. Cinderford’s defence was awesome with some very heavy tackles going in. Ryan Kibble put in a huge try saving tackle just short of the try line and somehow we managed to get possession of the ball again and clear our lines. At half time it was 0 – 0 and with the wind behind us in the second half there was a chance of a win, even with only 14 on the pitch for Cinderford. Within minutes of the restart Will Baldwin went over with Ryan Kibble getting the extras to make it 7 – 0 to the Cinderford lads. This time all of the play was in the Thornbury 22 with the assistance of the wind. There were many handling errors from both sides and the Cinderford scrum held up well against the larger Thornbury pack. The score line stayed at 7 – 0 until almost the final play of the game when Niall Rosser intercepted a wayward pass from Thornbury only a couple of meters out from the try line. Niall was in and touched down the ball for Cinderford’s second try with Ryan again getting the extras to make the final score 14 – 0 to Cinderford.
Final Score Cinderford 14-0 Thornbury.
