Old Albanian RFC v Cinderford RFC
Saturday 10 November KO 3pm (National 1)
Cinderford remain in 5th position, as they travel to St Albans to play Old Albanian RFC this Saturday.
Although newcomers into National One the Old Albanians are not to be underestimated. Currently sitting 10th in the table they impressed with an away win against table toppers Ealing Trailfinders last weekend, so will be confident on home turf.
There are 3 changes to the Cinderford line up, with Joe Garner starting at 8 and George Evans replacing him on the bench – on a rotation basis. Seasoned campaigner Dewi Scourfield returns to the first XV for Robbie Winchle, who goes to OA as the travelling rep. Nev Codlin returns after a back niggle and replaces Sam Caven, who picked up a knee injury in the Wharfedale game.
Said Andy Deacon, director of rugby: “Following our solid performance and win over Wharfedale, we travel to Old Albanians in good form, and from a position of strength. The OA brand of rugby will present a different challenge to one that we are used to, as they play a system when attacking that allows every player to handle the ball – stretched across the width of the pitch. This will test our defence. That said, it has worked well in training this week, as Gloucester Rugby’s defence coach, Paul Moriarty, has been working alongside us again, honing our skills to take full advantage of their style of play.”
“While on the subject of our partnership with Gloucester Rugby, we have loaned two players to Gloucester for their LV= Cup game on Friday against Ospreys. It’s a tremendous honour and opportunity for Ben Sparks and Ed King to pull on a cherry&white shirt, and everyone at Cinderford is proud of our two team members and we wish them a great game.”
