Cinderford Marches to Macclesfield
Saturday 18 April KO 3pm (National 1)
With just two games remaining Cinderford is on the road north tomorrow to play Macclesfield, targeting the win and much needed 5 points to secure their National 1 future, now that they are out of the relegation zone for the first time in three months.
Looking for the third win on the bounce following tremendous bonus point victories over Fylde and Richmond, the Foresters are upbeat but do respect the huge challenge facing them as records show that Cinderford has not won away at Macclesfield before.
That said, Nic Corrigan and his squad are confident that they can front up and take the win, and will go all out from the whistle. “Despite their league position we will not be complacent at Macclesfield, who won against Wharfedale last week. I am sure though they will come at us hard today with a direct and well-developed driving maul. We are totally focused on what we have to do, we are in a strong position and have to deliver a victory. Nothing less.”
The team stays virtually the same as in recent weeks save for Clive Stuart-Smith who picked up a knee injury last week and has to sit out; he is replaced by Danny Pointon. Alex Frame makes a welcome return to the bench. Joe Smart who has also been impressing in United, comes onto the bench for Jake Caulfield.
The players will be boosted by a great travelling home crowd on the supporters coach, accompanying the team bus. Their ‘voice’ will be crucial for the Cinderford squad who go there looking to change the history books and secure another win towards league success. It promises to be another game that requires nerves of steel for both the players and the watching fans!
For fans not able to travel they can get their rugby fix at home in what will be another exhilarating fixture. Cinderford Unjted welcome Jersey Athletic in the Zoo Shield Division 1 – kicking off at the earlier time of 12:30pm.
Good luck to both teams.
