Cinderford earned themselves a bonus point victory against relegation threatened Exmouth, scoring 26 unanswered points in the second-half, but their victory was far from as comfortable as the final score line might suggest.
The first-half saw the home side belie their lowly status with a determined effort that saw them on top for long periods as inspirational captain Dave Bargent scored two tries from close range and Rich Cadywould added a conversion to give them a well deserved 12-10 lead at the interval. Cinderford responded with a try from Rob Winchle, which James Moffat converted, and he also kicked a penalty.
The visitors made a positive start to the second-half with winger Harry Robinson soon crossing for an unconverted try. Back came Exmouth however, with only some resolute defence and their inability to finish off a couple of good scoring opportunities stopped them from re-taking the lead. Eventually though Cinderford worked their way up field and centre Sam Goatley scored a fine individual try after an hour’s play, which Moffat converted.
As the match went into its closing stages some good work from No8 George Evans put second-row Dale Lemon through to score the bonus point try, and right on the final whistle Liam chased down a kick ahead to score a fifth try, with Moffat landing both conversions.
