For their first game of the season at the Bridge, Cinderford welcomed Kingswood, a team that they had briefly encountered last season in an end of year tournament.
Despite overnight rain, the pitch was in good condition and any rain had subsided before kick-off.
Kingswood arrived with what looked to be a mixed age group team, which led one of the Cinderford wings to comment that he had never had to mark someone with a beard before.
From the outset it was clear that despite having some sizeable forwards, Kingswood were going to be in be in for a long morning. Cinderford scored virtually from the kick off, and despite the best efforts of the Kingswood forwards to hold up the tide of red, black and gold, Cinderford continued to pile on the pressure, scoring a further five tries before half time.
Half time score Cinderford 34 Kingswood 0
The second half saw more of the same, with Cinderford scoring straight from the kick off. Kingswood did have their moments, putting pressure on the Cinderford line, however Cinderford stood firm and repelled the Kingswood attacks.
The game became very attritional with injuries to both side, Ed Nock took a particularly nasty head knock. Cinderford eventually saw out the game running in a further four tries.
The game finished with a serious looking injury to one of the Kingswood players. We wish him a speedy recovery.
For once Cinderford came up against a team with a pack of forwards who matched them for size, however the Cinderford eight came out on top in most facets of play and gave the backs plenty of opportunity to run at the opposition, which they used to good effect.
Next week Cinderford entertain Bridgend which is bound to be a challenging encounter.
Final Score: Cinderford 65 Kingswood 0
