Played in perfect conditions with the wind blowing from left to right, the game started with some handling mistakes by Cinderford resulting in an opportunist try for Tata’s centre Hopkins which was converted by kicker Lewis. Ten minutes later after some great scrummaging and support play young Dan ‘Chippy’ Nicholls put Cinderford on the score board. Danny Pointon’s conversion attempt bounced back off the upright. Tata went further ahead with a good try from the restart by number 8 Hall which was converted by Lewis.
Five minutes later, following a good scrum drive, scrum-half Clive Stuart-Smith converted by Pointon brought Cinderford back to within 2 points but Tata had the last say in the half when after a period of messy play back-row Malone scored a good try but the conversion was missed. Score at half-time 12-19
The second half started like the first with a quick try for Tata from their line-out and good handling when replacement back-row Lewis scored. The flood gates then opened with another Tata try from a quick penalty and some good handling allowing fullback Howells to score. 12-29. Five minutes later after a good scrum and forward attack Llewellyn scored his first try. Three minutes to go before Winger Stone finished off some excellent interplay to score another Tata try.
Cinderford came back into the game but could not put together a scoring sequence and eventually good handling and nice interplay saw Stone go over for his second try which was converted.
Cinderford, who had at that stage 6 ex-colts on the pitch, were still pressing hard but handling mistakes and silly penalties continuously stooped their progress until just at the close Tata’s LLewellyn scored his second try from a peel off at the back of a good scrum move.
Over all a good run-out for both sides and a great learning experience for the younger and newer club players.
