Cinderford RFC have signed tight head prop Shaun Knight from Championship side Hartpury RFC, and Knight will look to play an integral role in the Forest side’s 2022-23 season.
Knight (32) was born in Gloucester and has always been closely associated with Matson RFC. Shaun was a member of the England Under-20s squad in the 2009 and 2010 Junior World Cups. Shaun was part of the Gloucester Rugby squad from 2010-2015 making 78 appearances in all. He then joined Newport Gwent Dragons for the 2015-16 season before joining Bath Rugby for two seasons from 2016-18. Shaun made 20 plus appearances for both clubs. From 2018-20 Shaun played professionally in France for Rouen before returning home to sign for Hartpury RFC in 2020.
Cinderford RFC Director of Rugby Paul Morris commented “Shaun is a significant and major signing for us. We really wanted him and believe he is an ideal fit for us in an area we are already strong in. He has close ties with our existing prop forwards; George Porter, James Elliot, Tim Brockett and Joe Smart. There is mutual respect amongst them all and Shaun will help us spread the load in the front row department as we aim to be at our best in all 26 National One games next season.”
Knight stated “I’m delighted to sign for Cinderford, a club I spent a short period on loan with over a decade ago. I know many of the players there already and I can’t wait to play my part next season. I know Cinderford have the potential to improve again from their fifth placed finish of last season in the 2022-23 season and I believe I can help them realise this.”
