Cinderford won their 19th game in a row with a comfortable six try victory over first time visitors Old Redcliffians at the Beavis Memorial Ground.
The match was played in bitterly cold conditions and it was the home side who made all the early running with prop George Porter brushing aside an attempted tackle to score the opening try after just two minutes, which James Moffat converted. From the re-start Cinderford went through the phases and No8 George Evans crashed over from close range, with Moffat adding the conversion.
A series and pick and goes from the home forwards then set up the opportunity for second-row Callum Allen to cross for a third try, again bettered by Moffat. The try scoring bonus point was secured soon afterwards when flanker Matt Bennett intercepted a loose pass near the half-way line and he had enough pace to claim the score, with Moffat maintaining his 100% record from the tee.
Old Reds finally won some worthwhile possession and No8 Mason Gill-Watkins finished off some good handling to score an unconverted try in the corner. Cinderford finished the half strongly and Evans went over for his second try, with Moffat’s conversion making it 35-5 at the interval.
The second half began with an individual try from the home side’s outside-half Liam Hemming, but after this, perhaps not surprisingly in the testing conditions the match lost some of its intensity. The visitors gained some consolation in the closing stages when full-back Tom Hargan scored a try following a kick ahead and chase, which was well converted by Kieran Hill.
