Cinderford R.F.C are pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Deacon for the position of Professional Rugby Manager. After an extensive interview process and much debate, he will now join the interview panel in search for a new head coach. This will take place on Thursday, and we hope to make the decision and appointment by the weekend if possible.
This will allow the new coach the time required for recruitment, negotiations and plan pre-season training. Pre-season home matches versus Bridgend and Llandovery are planned, with others to be finalised.
To some outside, this may look like window dressing and no major change. I can assure you this is a major change in our professional rugby management. Andy will not be involved in the leadership, squad selection, team selection or preparation of the teams, as this is not a coaching or selection role. The role is focused on the Management of Professional and Development Rugby at Cinderford R.F.C.
The main aims are to manage the team of coaches and players; on and off the field, to set out a clear strategy of the development of rugby at CRFC over the next 3 years and to produce a plan setting out how the rugby development strategy will be implemented and managed.
From this there will be many objectives and duties to perform, to make the job become successful. He will report to both the management board and rugby board, creating a more proactive communication line between the players, coaches and management.
Andy demonstrated at interview his passion for the club and the responsibility in the change of role. The divorce from D.O.R, selector-coach to one of management is a big change. He demonstrated his hunger and desire to create a new chapter in his career. It also gives us some continuity and someone that can continue with the Cinderford ethos and work ethic. His commercial skills will also be of great benefit to the club.
The club would like to thank the other candidates that applied for the position and wish them well for the future.
Pete Bell, Club President
