On Saturday 15th December a loyal band of supporters travelled to Loughborough to surprise a devout Cinderford supporter.
Tony King (an ex Lydney lad) contacted the Cinderford supporters Club to see if we could plan a surprise for Tony Read, born in Ruardean. Tony Read moved to Loughborough over 50 years ago – but his heart is still in theForest.
We all met at the Beacon Inn, where the Landlord and Landlady put on a free lunch for us all – a very tasty Chilli con carne. Tony King had arranged to meet Tony Read at the pub, so say to measure up a property for a quote on building work. When he walked in to the bar he was elated to see the supporters Club members there to welcome him. A replica Cinderford shirt was presented to him by Dave Field, Vice Chairman of the Club.
We have since received a Christmas / Thank you card from Tony, so you see how much the day meant to him, and we look forward to seeing Tony in theForestwhen Loughborough come to visit in April.
Response from Tony Read
To the committee and members of the Supporters Club who travelled from Cinderford to watch the rugby match between Cinderford andLoughboroughUniversity.
What a surprise! When walking in to the Beacon Pub with Tony King, and finding all the crowd of Foresters, I couldn’t believe it! It turned out to be one of the most memorable Saturday afternoons I have experienced in a long time, especially when thinking I was accompanying Tony to estimate a building job!!
I found it most touching when being presented with the rugby shirt, them following on to enjoy a superb game of rugby. What sticks out to me when reflecting on the afternoon, was the friendliness I received from you all. I cannot thank you enough.
I believe there is return match in April and I hope to be able to come to your neck of the woods and meet you once more.
Yours
Tony Read
