Cinderford Stags opened their 2013 campaign with a visit from a strong Old Bristolians 2nd XV, where the previous encounter saw Cinderford win in a narrow 28-24 win. With the 1st XV playing away and the United being cancelled the Stags had a rare opportunity to play on the Dockham Road Ground.
The Stags played the first half into a strong wind which they coped with well, and with some dominant forward play led the first half 7 – 0.
The second half carried the trend of the first with the Stags advantage in the pack, however Old Bristolians back line carried a threat with good hands and speed across the advantage line but were not able to cross the try line. The Stags extended their lead to a final score of 29 – 0 with a combination of powerful scrummaging, driving mauls and some good back line play of their own.
There were good performances by the front row and No. 8 Louis Overthrow, but Man of the Match went to Scrum Half Jason Rowles.
