Cinderford comfortably overcame the challenge of a Bournville team, who despite earning a late try-scoring bonus point were ultimately relegated from National 2 West.
The match marked the end of an era for the hosts as it was the final game on grass at the Beavis Memorial Ground before the installation of a new 4G pitch this summer. The hosts shot ahead with three scores in 20 minutes from Will Baldwin and a double from Joe Mullis, and then winger Sam Smith’s lightning feet were too hot for the Bournville defenders as he went over untouched to secure the bonus point before the half hour mark. Sonny Greenman landing three of the conversions. The best of five first half tries came from Smith with his second in the corner after free-flowing attack, again bettered by Greenman, to make it 40-0 at the interval.
Five minutes into the second half, Cinderford prop Harry Edwards couldn’t believe his luck when his grubber kick from a loose ball rebounded off the post and into his grateful hands to score in comical fashion. Bournville breached the Cinderford defence in the second half with tries from Joe Jenkins, Ben Meakin, and a penalty try. However, Cinderford eradicated any chance of a miracle recovery with scores from George Alexander, Baldwin again, and George Angell, all of which were converted by Luke McMahon, before the visitors secured their try bonus point with a Nathan Decalmer score at the death.
