Cinderford remain undefeated after an intense, back-and-forth battle against Taunton Titans.
Cinderford snatched an eighth, consecutive win of the season at the Beavis Memorial ground, in a close fight against their West Country rivals. Titans kicked off the scoring with fast offloads between the centres as they shipped the ball out to Charlie Wright, who slotted himself beneath the posts. Jack Walsh converted the try to leave Taunton with a 7-0 lead. Cinderford soon found their feet and levelled out the scores as William Hendy shot up the wing to score in the corner, followed by a comfortable conversion from Reece Boughton. We saw an impressive display of defensive work from Cinderford as Taunton struggled to find a gap, until fly-half Jack Walsh dived through putting the Titans back on top. Two near identical tries followed for Cinderford, as their strong lineouts allowed them to power over the line as hooker, Nathan Taylor escaped the maul to ground the ball on both accounts. Boughton successfully converted the second of the two, keeping Cinderford at a 19-14 lead.
The second half of the game was well contested with Taylor completing his ‘hat-trick’ and secured the bonus point, with another score off a line out and maul after 62 minutes. Charlie Wright achieved his second score of the game for Taunton which was again converted by Jack Walsh. The game was left with a nail-biting end as opportunities arose for Taunton, however the strength of Cinderford’s defence aided the home victory.
