Cinderford picked up a bonus point victory, but they were pushed all the way by a battling Barnstaple side, who deserved to take something more from the match.
The home side started strongly and James Moffat put them ahead with a penalty after just 5 minutes, but Barnstaple responded with a well taken try from Will Topps, which was converted by Jordan Petherbridge. The referee then awarded Cinderford a penalty try when their opponents went offside as the scrum moved close to the line. The home side kept the pressure on and outside-half Liam Hemming dummied his way through for a try, which Moffat converted and the score remained 17-7 at the interval.
Barnstaple were awarded a penalty try early in the second-half also for deliberate offside and they soon scored again to take the lead when winger Luke Berry went over for an unconverted try in the corner. Back came Cinderford and prop Tim Brockett forced his way over from close range, Hemming landed the conversion and kicked a penalty following a high tackle.
After defending their line from sustained Barnstaple pressure Cinderford moved back up field in the closing stages and No8 Harry Hone picked up the ball at the base of a 5m scrum and burst through to score the bonus point try.
