Cinderford United 13-45 Richmond 2 XV
Saturday 5th October

Cinderford United will have plenty to work on over the next week. Richmond took an early lead through a penalty however after one missed attempt Tom Law equalised from a simple penalty on the oppositions 22 to make the score 3-3. Richmond soon struck back after Luke Crunden was deemed off his feet at ruck on United’s 22, the conversion struck the posts and two simple wide passes to the Richmond wing and it was an easy run into the corner, Richmond slotted a touchline conversion to take the lead 10-3 after 10 minutes.

United did show some sparks of good play through the back line, fullback Alex Frame providing several clever pieces of tactical play but as in recent times, individual errors cost them chances to score. Richmond played simple and brutal rugby, often breaking the first tackle and at times gaining up to 20 metres over the gain line before being brought to ground. Cinderford penalty count racked up over the course of the match, Richmond were happy to keep hold of possession for most of the match, often pinning Cinderford within their own half and taking advantage of gaps in Cinderford’s defensive line.

Richmond led 31-8 at the start of the second half, another smart break by Alex Frame and quick recycling of the ball enabled prop Toby Farrier to smash over from close range as the clock hit 51minutes. However even with the subsequent two yellow cards for Richmond, Cinderford failed to regain any real foothold in the game and by the hour mark the physicality endured by home side was evident. Richmond managed two more converted tries before the ref blew the final whistle with a final score of 13 − 45.
