Mountain Ash 2nds 7-50 Cinderford United

Cinderford United continued their winning ways, in Wales, after the frustration of last week’s cancelled league game against Ealing A. In truth they were rarely troubled by their Rhondda based opponents Mountain Ash and the United never really reached top gear. The young Cinderford side, captained by flanker Marcus Brown and with the eldest player being prop James Brooks at 26, possessed too much pace and ball handling ability for their game and committed hosts. This was emphasised by the first United try as talented fly half James Moffat ghosted through a flailing home defence after three minutes for a try he converted himself. Scrum half Andy Uren added a second which Moffat converted before the home side deservedly scored a converted try from a series of pick and go’s close to the United line. However, just before half time a break from deep inside United territory eventually saw flanker Rhys Luckwell touch down wide out on the left for a third, this time unconverted, try.

Despite the home side having long periods of possession they never contained the threat of the Cinderford side. Five second half tries followed for the United as their pace continued to open up the home defence. Centre Tom Law, a second for Luckwell, prop Matt Williams, centre James Butler and wing James Price all touched down in order. Moffat converted twice with Ollie Whiting adding one. Credit must go to the hosts who were brave opponents throughout the game and very hospitable hosts before and after the game.

Cinderford United; Ollie Whiting, Chris Hawkins, James Butler, Tom Law, James Price, James Moffat, Andy Uren, James Brooks, Michael Davies, Matt Williams, Jack Shields, Will Hodgetts, Rhys Luckwell, Marcus Brown (Captain), Mike Uren; Replacements (both used continually on rotation); Jack Richards, Neil Cully.

Cinderford Stags 25-26 Dings Crusaders Knights

Nathan Green scored a ‘hat-trick’ of tries and kicked a penalty, but the Stags were just edged out by Dings in their Gloucestershire Reserve Premier League match.
