CINDERFORD RFC TEAMS UP WITH THE PIPED PIPER APPEAL

October 2014 – National 1 league side, Cinderford RFC is pleased to announce that the Pied Piper Appeal is to be their chosen charity partner for the 2014/15 season. The partnership includes carrying the charity’s recognised logo on the club’s playing shirts, home and away, as well as holding a number of fund raising initiatives to raise monies for this great cause.

The local children’s charity strives to help and improve the lives of sick children in the Gloucestershire area, and works closely with the NHS, community groups, local authorities, families and sports clubs such as Gloucester Rugby and Cinderford RFC to help make their vision a reality.

The Pied Piper Appeal was set up in 1992 originally to raise funds for a new children’s hospital in the county, after completing that goal they have gone on to raise over £2 million through a variety of successful fundraising efforts. Chairman, Nick Broady was thrilled to hear the news: “Teaming up with Cinderford makes perfect sense as we look to increase our reach in supporting families in the Forest. It’s perhaps not well known about the work we have already done here. Only last year at the Heart of the Forest school we spent £40,000 on a new mini bus adapted for wheelchair use. Prior to that we have invested over £25,000 on playground areas, equipment, toys and a polytunnel for children to grow crops. The funds raised with the support of Cinderford Rugby will go along way to helping terminally ill children with their special last wish requests. This is where we send kids on days out and holidays that create memories treasured forever by the family members.”

Commenting on the initiative, Peter Bell, Cinderford president said: “We wanted to support a local charity where funds raised in our great sporting county directly go to help children in Gloucestershire. The fact that the Pied Piper is looking to increase their support in the Forest of Dean makes it a perfect partnership. We are a traditional, family oriented rugby club with an extensive minis and juniors section and it’s the least we can do to support less fortunate children. Their work is commendable and strengthens the close bonds that tie our community together.”

The first event takes place on Saturday 25 October and appeals to all rugby fans looking for a great day out watching Cinderford take on Rosslyn Park in the semi-pro National 1 league.
