Cinderford travelled to Macclesfield with high hopes following last weeks’ victory over Rosslyn Park, but they left disappointed as their opponents gave themselves a boost, in their efforts to move out of the National One relegation zone.

The home side opened the scoring when Dave Marwick burst through to score a try which Tom Eaton converted. Mark Davies and Eaton then exchanged penalties before Cinderford were awarded a penalty try when home winger Jack Moorhouse was yellow carded for deliberately putting the ball into touch, denying a scoring chance. Davies levelled the scores with the conversion.

The visitors created, but failed to take advantage of several scoring opportunities in the remainder of the first-half and Eaton put over his second penalty to give his side a slender advantage at the interval.

Another penalty from Eaton early in the second-half was followed by a yellow card for Davies and Macclesfield grasped the chance to take control of the match with tries from Tom Martell, a second from Marwick and Matt Rhodes, with Eaton converting twice.
A late rally saw Mike Wilcox and Nick Selway go over for tries, both of which were converted by Davies, but it was too little too late from Cinderford.
