Rugby in the Forest of Dean

At the Dean Heritage Centre (DHC), Soudley from Saturday 19th September until Sunday 13th December, the Rugby World Cup is being celebrated with an exhibition dedicated to Forest rugby.  This exhibition was mounted thanks to the help and support of many local Forest rugby clubs, with particular thanks to the Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union and the Forest of Dean & District Rugby Football Combination for their kind monetary donations.

The exhibition follows the history of rugby in the Forest of Dean and features profiles in many local teams.  The DHC wants to highlight the importance of Forest teams, as well as involving members of the community.  This approach has resulted in many items on display being kindly loaned to the DHC by local rugby enthusiasts.

Nicola Wynn, Collections Officer said:

“We are thrilled to be hosting a World Cup inspired rugby exhibition at the DHC.  We wanted to capture local people’s stories, the development and achievements of the Forest sides and the enthusiasm and pride of players and rugby fans alike.”

Entry to the exhibition is included in admission to the Dean Heritage Centre.
