Cinderford United produced another fine team performance to soundly beat the second string of Coventry RFC in a match played at Broadstreet RFC. In truth the game never reached the scintillating heights of the previous week’s United encounter with Henley but nevertheless there were many positives to the United’s performance. Coventry never really threatened to score a try in the whole 80 minutes and the fact that the United only led 18-6 on the hour mark owed more to the visitors lack of execution when try scoring chances were presented than any concerted Coventry threat. The home side did possess a large hard scrummaging pack of forwards but they were no match for the United’s greater mobility.

The United took the lead with an early unconverted try from young Jack Richards after excellent build up play. Several chances were spurned by the hard working Cinderford side but Coventry kicked two penalty goals to take the lead before on the stroke of half time United fly half James Moffat kicked a penalty of his own to give the United a two point interval lead.  An early Moffat penalty in the second half increased the United lead but chances continued to be missed until (on the hour) they finally crossed for a second try with full back Chris Hawkins crossing wide on the left on his return from nearly a year out with a groin injury. Moffat converted and the floodgates opened with four more tries being scored in quick succession. Right wing Henry Bird scorched in for two tries whilst centre James Price and young flanker Matt Allcock added the others. Moffat converted all four for a thumping United victory.
