Cinderford rallies the fans to support home game v Richmond RFC
Saturday 6 October (National 1 KO 2:30pm)

The Forest side looks to continue its impressive home form as they take on the newly promoted London side, Richmond RFC. Anticipating a tough battle as the Londoners’ come to Gloucestershire on the back of a draw against table leaders Ealing last weekend. But Cinderford are confident that the home crowd will cheer them on to another win at the Beavis Memorial Ground and continue their high scoring run.
“I have been a bit hard on the guys this week as I wasn’t overly happy with our performance at Tynedale last Saturday,” said Andy Deacon, director of rugby. “We all have to realise there are no easy games in this division and we have to sustain playing to our full potential for eighty minutes to gain the points we need to maintain our lofty position; today sees us at third but on the same points as second place Blackheath.”
“In training we have worked hard on tightening up our defence which has been an area of focus in recent times. And in the mid week game where our United side met Hartpury BUCS, we had a chance to see all the squad members play, helping with selection for this tough fixture against the keen newcomers’. We have focused on tapping into each and everyone’s potential so that we hit our performance metrics game after game. It’s our objective to do this with the guys but they have to also have the belief and the desire to improve and achieve our goals as part of the Cinderford rugby brand. We can’t afford to disappoint and we know we can do it… look at the first four games.”
The side stays virtually the same, just a few tweaks. Sam Caven starts and Lloyd Stapleton moves to the bench on a player rotation basis. Tom Heard returns to tight head having recovered from his elbow injury and we welcome back Luke Allen as he makes his first start this season now fully fit. Ben Sparks also comes on the bench. Also today sees Cinderford United side play Richmond’s second XV team.
