Cinderford Chase the ‘W’ on Home Turf v Hull Ionians
Saturday 21 September — Nat 1
KO 2.30pm

Cinderford RFC return home to take on National 1 league newcomers, Hull Ionians RUFC, on their first visit to the Beavis Memorial Ground, and are looking for their much needed first win of this campaign. Hull Ionians have also had a tough start to the season with two 40 pointer defeats against Coventry and Doncaster both at home.

Said Andy Deacon, director of rugby: “Everyone tells me this is a must win game and of course it is. But to me as it is a home fixture, I aim to take the win at every home game. That said our league opener against Rosslyn Park was hugely disappointing especially after all the preparation we put in during pre-season and was hard to take. But we took a lot of positives out of that game which stands us in good stead. Last week against Coventry, the boys applied themselves well but their were critical times in the game where we could and should have scored points. We have again trained well this week with certain players coming back to fitness and others dipping out due to fresh injuries.”

“The side sees a few changes. Nev Codlin returns after a wedding last week. He replaces Sam Hanks who moves back to his favoured position at centre, taking the place of Brad Davies who is focusing on his coaching duties this week. Chris Hawkins retains his place in the side after playing extremely well at Coventry and Lloyd Stapleton comes back after injury recovery, replacing Alex Frame on the bench. The pack remains unchanged.”

On Monday evening, 23rd September, Cinderford United takes on Stourbridge 2 at 7.30pm, away at Stourbridge. All support is welcomed.
