U15s Match report 4/11/18
Cinderford v Pontypool United

A wet Autumnal Sunday morning greeted our friends from Pontypool for a much anticipated match. With a slightly depleted turn out all players were going to have to dig deep, and they didn’t disappoint. Cinderford got out of the blocks quickly and found themselves 7 points ahead after 5 mins. From the restart Cinderford made a quick break in midfield, after the tackle the forwards cleared out well to secure the ball which set up another try under the posts, ably converted to give the boys a 14-0 lead after 10 mins.

Play continued in much the same way with Cinderford dominating possession and when they had to defend they proved to be more than capable, with some solid tackling and impressive line speed it didn’t give Pontypool the time or space to set up any real scoring opportunities. Two further tries and a conversion ended a very satisfying first half.

Pontypool came out for the second half with a very determined attitude, their heads certainly not dropping, given the score. A try and conversion within the first ten minutes by Pontypool gave the game a different feel and they started to put together some good phases of play. This however seemed to give Cinderford a jolt, and it wasn’t long before they were in control of the game again.

Discipline became a factor mid way through the second half, the opposition becoming frustrated with Cinderfords continued superior play. This situation could easily have escalated but the Cinderford boys reacted very maturely by not getting drawn into any conflict. Two further tries and a cheeky drop goal penalty finished the game. Well done boys, a great performance.
