Cinderford Under 15’s took on Longlevens Under 15’s on Sunday 2nd March, at the Bridge, in their latest County Cup match. Having been cancelled twice previously, it was important that this game was played, with Cinderford having won 1 and lost 1 in the cup so far – so a win today was vital.
Cinderford played the first half “up hill”, so they knew that this was going to be tough considering the conditions were barely playable. Longlevens scored an early try, that was not converted to give them an early 5-0 lead. Cinderford dug in and made some big tackles to keep in the game. This was a very intense game and both sides gave their all to try and gain the upper hand.
In the second half, Cinderford began to dominate and following some fine handling, Will Baldwin crossed the try line to tie the scores at 5-5. Jack Guy narrowly missed the conversion from a tight angle. Further pressure from Cinderford was rewarded with a penalty that Jack Guy slotted home to give the boys an 8-5 lead which they were never going to relinquish.
This was a superb team effort from all 20 of the boys and they should take great pride in defeating Longlevens to edge closer to the knockout stages of the County Cup. Cinderfords men of the match were Louis Brennan & Ben Thompson.
