Cinderford Upbeat for Back to Back Win at Worthing
Saturday 16 November (KO 2:00pm National 1)

Looking to secure a back to back win following their 25-0 victory agains Blackheath last week, Cinderford RFC travels to Worthing RFC in a bid to secure their first away win in National 1. In what promises to be an intense and challenging game, Andy Deacon, director of rugby, believes they have a strong platform from which to be successful.

“The boys have put the winning formula back into Cinderford and I am determined that we keep it there. It is difficult when you lose but to come back in the manner that they have has put a smile back on my face. We put in a very workman-like performance against Blackheath and we were very aggressive in defence. There was a lot more desire and commitment which is so pleasing. We had a renewed intensity which ultimately won us the game. We had a very good platform in the scrum and it was a good, hard performance. It’s nice to have that winning feeling back because I wasn’t happy by the way we played in our defeat to Wharfedale.

“Last week gave the players and our supporters a massive boost. Long may this continue as we look to get that elusive away win at Worthing, who interestingly were beaten by Hull Ionians, so this presents a heightened opportunity for us.” Cinderford sits just above Worthing in the league table making it all to play for with both sides hungry for the points.

Changes to last week’s line up see Alex Pickersgill start in place of Nev Codlin who is injured this week. With the full contingency of Gloucester Rugby loan players now back with the Foresters, Reece Boughton starts at scrum half with Danny Pointon moving to the bench, on rotation. Likewise Tom Hicks starts in the second row and Ed King goes to the bench. The strong front row remains unchanged.

In a Cinderford double header, the United team also travels away with the First XV to play Worthing Raiders ‘A’ kicking off at 2pm. Accompanying the two teams is a full supporters bus who journey to the south coast to provide that much welcomed strength in voice from the side lines.

Celebrating everything rugby at home in the Forest of Dean, Cinderford Stags welcomes Newent RFC 2nds KO 2.30pm. With a prematch meal this will give home fans a great day of rugby for those that are not travelling.

Good luck to all teams #teamcindy
