Cinderford gained an excellent victory over last year’s Principality Premiership runners-up Llandovery in a pre-season friendly match.

The visitors started strongly, but the home cleared their lines and gradually moved up field where a collapsed scrum saw them awarded a penalty which Liam Hemming successfully kicked.  Back came the Drovers and some quick hands released scrum-half Lee Rees to score a converted try under the posts.

The Forest side responded by putting their opponents under pressure at the set-piece and after several infringements the referee awarded them a penalty try.  Once again the Welshmen were quick to reply, when the ball was recycled quickly in mid-field and hooker Matthew Moore scored an unconverted try wide out.

Cinderford put their opponents try line under pressure as half-time approached, but they were unable to find a way through and the score remained 10-12 at the interval.

The Foresters regained the lead 15 minutes in the second-half when following an initial break by centre Ed Bogue, Matt Lane and Aaron Ryan combined well to put winger Reuben Norville away to score a fine try.

Much of the remainder of the match took place in the visitor’s half and despite their being no further score Cinderford had done enough to claim their victory.

Great to be back in the Rugby routine…boys played well…forwards have started off where we finished last season by dominating the opposition 8. We could have won by a bigger margin…several tries went begging…we must be more clinical close to their line. Lets ramp it up lads…Cheers
