Cinderford emerged from a battle of attrition with Blaydon to claim a much needed victory at a windswept Beavis Memorial Ground.

Playing with the advantage of the strong wind behind them the home side were soon pressing forward but a penalty attempt from outside-half Callum Sheedy fell well short.  He made amends soon afterwards though when his break created the chance for winger Nev Codlin to touchdown in the corner for an unconverted try.

Blaydon responded with a good passage of play which eventually led to an unconverted try from Jason Smithson after 28 minutes of play, following a lineout catch and drive.  Despite some strong pressure from Cinderford, this proved to be the final score of the first-half and it was the visitors who went into the interval the happier team.

The second-half saw Cinderford continue push forward and they went through numerous phases of play before Mike Wilcox opened up the Blaydon defence to put Sam Hanks away for a try, which Sheedy converted.

There was some excellent defence from home side as their opponents put their try line under immense pressure, but eventually another lineout catch and drive saw Smithson claim his second try. The conversion attempt from Rhodri Adamson was crucially missed however as it struck the upright.

The closing minutes of the match were a very tense affair, but Cinderford held firm to a claim a narrow but deserved victory.
