The accurate boot of Coventry full-back Cliffie Hodgson, who kicked five penalties, proved to be the difference between the sides as both teams struggled to come to terms with the conditions following a torrential downpour in the early stages of the match.

Knock-ons abounded throughout and Hodgson took advantage of Cinderford indiscipline to kick successful penalties after 9, 19 and 23 minutes.
Cinderford replied with two penalties from winger Charlie Norman after 12 and 26 minutes to make the score 9-6 to the visitors at the interval.

Hodgson landed another kick at goal soon after the re-start, and he punished the home side again with his fifth after 55 minutes to put Coventry in the ascendancy at 6-15.  The home side build up some momentum and a well-executed lineout catch and drive saw No8 George Evans touchdown for an unconverted try after 67 minutes of play to put the game back in the balance.

Both sides had opportunities to score in the closing stages, but Coventry had done just enough to secure their victory.
